About the Town of Orange
The Town of Orange was chartered on August 11, 1781. Located in the northwest corner of Orange County, the town is bordered by:

South: Washington and Corinth

East: Topsham

North: Groton, Plainfield, and Harris and Goshen Gores

West: Barre
Orange was “largely a farming town,” reaching its peak population in 1830 with about 1,000 residents and over 5,000 sheep grazing on the hillsides.
According to the 2000 Census, the population was 951.
The tallest peaks in town are Knox Mountain and Butterfield Mountain, both rising above 3,000 feet, and believed to be named after early settlers.
