The Orange Recreation Committee works to promote community connection, outdoor recreation, and appreciation of the many natural resources available to residents of Orange. The committee helps care for public recreation spaces in town and organizes community events that bring neighbors together.
Under town ordinance, the Recreation Committee is responsible for the stewardship of Orange’s public recreation lands. Current efforts focus on maintaining and improving the recreation and ball fields on Reservoir Road, expanding awareness and access to the Orange Town Forest, and creating opportunities for residents to gather and build community.
The committee is exploring plans to restore a celebration of Orange’s birthday in August at the town recreation field, as well as potential events connected with the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Community events like these help create opportunities for residents to meet one another and strengthen the sense of community in Orange.
The committee is also actively working on improvements to town recreation spaces. Recent work at the Reservoir Road recreation field has included brush-hogging and maintenance. Future plans include improving drainage and parking, exploring possible expansion of the field, and eventually constructing a picnic pavilion to make the space more accessible and welcoming for families and visitors.
Additional projects under discussion include collaboration with Orange Center School to revitalize the nature trail across from the school, improvements to the Orange Town Forest trail system, and development of a small parking area to make the trails easier to access.
The Recreation Committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Orange Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are always welcome to attend.
