Notice of Vacancy:
Pursuant to 24 V.S.A. § 961, the Town is required to provide public notice regarding the Justice of the Peace position formerly held by Mr. Fred Kidder, who passed away in late July. The position is currently vacant. 17 V.S.A. § 2623 delegates decision-making authority for appointing a replacement to the Governor.
Fred was a long-time resident of Orange, and an active member of the community. His legacy is one of kindness and service. The Town mourns his loss.

The Board of Civil Authority is a quasi-judicial eleven-member board consisting of five Justices of the Peace, three Selectboard members and the Town Clerk.
The Board’s duties include: serving as election officials and assisting on Election Day, sitting in on the tax appeals process and serving as a member of the Board of Tax Abatement.
Meetings are held on an as-needed basis after being duly warned by the clerk.
